At Focus Underwriters, LLC, we have assembled a knowledgeable, friendly staff... each member of our core staff has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. This allows our customers to expect and receive a high degree of experience and professionalism.
Michael T. Deering - Senior Vice President::
Michael has two degrees, one in finance and one in natural sciences, and has 27 years experience in the property and casualty, and excess and surplus lines insurance industry. He holds property and casualty licenses, life and health licenses and surplus lines licenses in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, and assists with the underwriting duties. He is also a member of NAPSLO.
Patricia M. Deering - Vice President-Operations::
Pat has handled General Agency accounts payables and receivables. She has served as office manager and an underwriting assistant for over 20 years. Pat currently holds a property and casualty license, and will use her previous experience to develop, organize and implement operational procedures in addition to assisting with underwriting duties.
Nell Germann - Senior Underwriter::
Nell is Focus Underwriters’ lead underwriter. She is a licensed property and casualty underwriter, and is currently studying to sit for her surplus lines license. She has over 30 years of insurance experience, and is a qualified, competent professional.
Aimee Buck - Assistant Underwriter::
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Aimee provides support and service to our agents, as well as quoting and issuing policies. She holds her property and casualty insurance license and has over 6 years experience in the excess and surplus lines insurance industry.
Amanda Buck, CISR – Assistant Underwriter::
Amanda is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. In addition to quoting and issuing policies, she provides underwriting support and service to our agents. She holds a property and casualty insurance license, a life and health license, and recently earned her CISR designation. Amanda has 6 years experience in the insurance industry, 5 of them working in the excess and surplus lines business.
Ryan Deering – Office Assistant::
Ryan is a recent graduate of North Carolina State University. He currently handles scanning, filing, mail and performs other support functions for the underwriting and administrative staff.
Laurie Straube – Office Assistant::
Laurie is a 2005 graduate of James Madison University where she majored in International Affairs. She currently assists the underwriting and administrative staff with policy issuance, invoicing, certificates, filing, main and other support functions.
